Established in 2021 by the Pioneers Run Crew, the 26.TRUE Marathon is a community-centered, inclusive, and untimed event that honors the diverse neighborhoods of Boston. It offers a "real Boston" alternative to the elite-centric Boston Marathon by traversing areas such as Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan, aiming to enhance accessibility and foster local community pride.
The race does not track time, emphasizing community involvement over competition, enabling runners of all skill levels to cross the finish line tape. 26.TRUE takes a different path from the usual suburban-heavy route by passing through real Boston neighborhoods like Dorchester, Mattapan, and Jamaica Plain, with the goal of highlighting the city's authentic culture.
Started by the Pioneers Run Crew as a "movement" to reclaim marathon culture in Boston, it provides a "storytelling experience" that connects with local residents and BIPOC runners. 26.TRUE is crafted to be more financially accessible, unlike the traditional marathons that come with high costs and fundraising obligations, making it a "race for the rest of us".
Held on the Saturday before the Boston Marathon, the event invites residents to come together, support, and engage with runners, fostering a lively, community-centered environment.
