Fast 800M times and Clutch Long Jump Performances at the BU Valentine Invitational

Boston, MA

800M men

A number of top times were run over the weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at BU. In NCAA DI action, Tyler Edson ran 1:46.48 to mark the 12th fastest time in the nation this year. Thomas Cowan ran a scintilating time of 1:46.83 but finds himself in 17th position, just outside the top 15 for the NCAA national meet in March. Last year's DI indoor champion Matthew Ericksen ran 1:46.88 which puts him in the 18th position. He'll need to run a better time if he is to defend his title in March.

Josue Le Cadre ran the fastest DII time of the year with his 1:46.97. He becomes the heavy favorite for the 800M title for DII athletes. Emil Meggle ran 1:49.09 which makes his the 8th fastest time run by a DII athlete this year.

In DIII action, Basheer Alramahi posted a time of 1:50.72, the third fastest time in the nation for a DIII athlete. That time has him looking at a real shot of the 800m title come March.

Women's long jump

In the women's long jump competition, the top two competitors recorded their best performances of the meet on their last respective jumps. Clutch. Boston University's Peace Omonzane recorded an initial long jump and then proceeded to foul on her next four attempts. She secured the win on her last jump, blasting out to 6.06m. Ella Goulas jumped 5.87m which would have been good enough for the win in any other competition. But this day, she had to contend with the talented Peace Omonzane.
