The mile races at the GBTC Invitational unfolded like different chapters of the same story told by different times and ages. The high schoolers started the races, running on conditioning and instinct, faced down doubt with daring on each lap. In the open section, the pace intensified—shoulders brushing on the banked turns, moves executed with quiet confidence, the field stretching and contracting as if connected by an invisible thread. The masters began with patience, quickly settling into a steady rhythm, their strides efficient and purposeful, competing not only against each other but also against their own memories. The mile seems to compress time: experience, peak performance, and potential all circling the same track.
