January 8, 2026 It was wonderful to cover an event specifically for throwers (the Bryant University Throws Competition). We often focus on running events at the cost of field events, more than we’d like to admit. We've corrected our course for at least one weekend, and every small effort counts. Smithfield, RI A number of athletes from local colleges competed at the Bryant University Throws Competition. Represented colleges included Bridgewater State, Bryant University, Central Connecticut State. Eastern Connecticut State, Fitchburg State, Merrimack College, New Haven and Stonehill. The women and men competed in the Shot Put, Weight Throw and Discus. Results can be found here .

Smithfield, Rhode Island On January 5, 2026, the Bryant University Athletics Department organized its annual Throws Clinic and Competition, welcoming high school and masters' athletes. Participants competed in events including the shot put, weight throw, and discus. Additionally, masters' athletes took part in the super weight event, which involves a larger 44-pound weight ball.
