Top New England High School Weight Throw

It takes strength and speed and timing to be successful in the Weight Throw. When it is executed correctly, it is a beautiful thing to behold. Some of the best weight throwers in the country are in our back yard. The following New England High School athletes are tops in our area and rank high in the nation.


The top throw in the country belongs to Rhode Island's Shamrock Thoun (Woonsocket.) He threw 79' 4.25" at the U.S. Marine Corps Holiday Classic on December 28. The third longest throw was made by Jack Harmon (North Kingstown, RI) at 72' 7.75" on Decmeber 21 at the RIIL Dual Meet. Massachusetts' Alex Jackson threw 70' 4" for the fourth longest throw in the country this year. Alex throws for Peabody Vet. Mem. in MA; he made his mark on December 14 at the NEC Winter Invitational.


The fifth longest throw belongs to Rhode Island's Owen Spira at 69' 10.75". Owen throws for Exeter-West Greenwich. His mark came at the U.S. Marine Corps Holiday Classic. At number six with a mark of 69' 8.5" is Rhode Island's Ryan Evans (East Greenwich) recorded at the RIIL Dual Meet. Brandon Wolfenden (Ocean State, RI) threw for the seventh longest weight throw in the nation (68' 6.75") at the Beantown Winter Classic.


The fourteenth longest weight throw came from Thomas Matlock (East Lyme, CT) with a mark of 65' 10.5" at the ECC Developmental. Massachusetts' Logan Alfandari throwing for Amherst Pelham Regional threw 64' 3.25" to record the 18th longest throw in the country at the MSTCA Boston Holiday Challenge. At number 19 is Ethan Charnley (Bishop Hendricken, RI) with a mark of 63' 7.5" at the RIIL Dual Meet. Connecticut's Marshall Potter throw of 62' 10" put him at the twentieth spot. Marshall throws for Simsbury and recorded his long throw at THROWHAWKS Holiday Classic.


There is more of the same on the girls side, outstanding throwers from New England states dominate the top 20 longest throws.


Rhode Island's Gifty Bediako (Classical) has the top throw in the nation. She threw for 53' 3" just before Christmas, December 21 at the RIIL Dual Meet. The fourth longest throw in the country was recorded by Adelaide Caron (Ocean State, RI). Adelaide threw for 51' 1.25" at the Beantown Winter Classic.


Vanessa Jones has the fifth longest throw in the US (50' 8.75".) Vanessa made her mark at the RIIL Dual Meet. The sixth and seventh longest throws also came at the RIIL Dual Meet! Isabella Piette (Woonsocket, RI) threw for 49' 9.75" and Mia Hoskins (Coventry, RI) threw 49' 5". Chibuzo Ihenacho (Classical, RI) threw 48' 4.25" at the (you guessed it) RIIL Dual Meet to record the ninth longest throw in the US.


The eleventh longest throw in the nation belongs to Massachusetts' Nialonis Smith (New Bedford.) Nialonis threw 48' 1.5" at the MSTCA Speed Classic. Smithfield Rhode Island's Taylor McGinness recorded 48' 0.5" at the MSTCA Boston Holiday Challenge. Taylor's mark is the 12th longest throw in the country this year.


Back to the RIIL Dual Meet! Nelmarix Santos Mojica (Classical) threw for 47' 9.75" and Jillian Walters (Ponaganset) threw 47' 8.5" to record the 13th and 14th longest throws in the country. The fifteenth longest throw in the US belongs to Julia Smith (Prout, RI) at 47' 5" from the RIIL Sullivan Dual Meet. The 17th longest throw was recorded by Rhode Island's Payton Goulding (Cumberland); 47' 3.75" at the Beantown Winter Classic.


New England is a hot bed for the weight throw. Throw Town anyone?
