Additionally, there were numerous remarkable performances at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. This weekend's upcoming indoor track meets... On Saturday, I will be back at BU with David Callum for the Mini-Meet at BU. (Speaking with David on Saturday between his many officiating duties, he let me know of the new deal he struck with Saucony for a new meet in February: the Saucony Battle for Boston. More details to come.) - Franklin Park Turkey Trot
Boston, MA The Franklin Park Turkey Trot 2025 attracted a record number of participants on Thanksgiving morning, benefiting from clear skies and crisp weather that provided perfect racing conditions. It continues to be Boston’s largest Thanksgiving Day race, deeply embedded in community tradition. Since its inception in 2013, the Franklin Park Turkey Trot has evolved into Boston's largest race held on Thanksgiving Day. Hosted by the Franklin Park Coalition, this event highlights community spirit, family involvement, and local pride. Participants, including both runners and walkers, mainly hail from Roxbury, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, and Mattapan, with numerous out-of-town family members also taking part. The 2025 race reached full capacity, with registrations maxed out and the event completely filled. Hundreds of families and individuals took part, creating a festive and inclusive beginning to the holiday. The atmosphere was joyful, featuring runners in turkey hats, children in strollers, and volunteers cheering along the route.
- Brooks Northeast XC Championships
Boston, MA The historic cross-country course at Franklin Park once more served as the venue for a thrilling and exciting event: the Brooks Northeast XC Championships. Youth Races (3K) 9–12 Boys & Girls: Competitive groups with significant club participation; multiple athletes finished in under 12 minutes. Boys & Girls 13–14: Impressive performances all around, as top finishers completed the course in under 12 minutes, highlighting the region's talent. Freshman/Sophomore Races (5K) Boys: The race started intensely, with the winner finishing in just over 16 minutes. Girls: A strategic race, with the leading group splitting up after Bear Cage Hill; finishing time 19:44.00. Championship Races (5K) Marty Lewis Championship (Boys, Juniors/Seniors): Top-tier performances, featuring a winner completing the course in under 15 minutes. Phil Zodda Championship (Girls, Juniors/Seniors): A strong push in the first kilometer secured the win; finishing time was 16:47.3. Boston, MA The 2025 BAA Boston Half Marathon showcased incredible performances in the wheelchair divisions, with athletes delivering speed, endurance, and determination across the 13.1-mile course. Yen Hoang claimed the women's title with a finishing time of 1:00:02, displaying strength and accuracy. Hannah Babalola secured second place with a resolute effort in the final miles. - Boston College and Syracuse win at the NCAA DI Northeast Regionals
Hopkinton, NH The women's teams from Boston College and Providence College secured first and second place respectively at the NCAA DI Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships. Boston College achieved victory with a score of 60 points, earning an automatic qualifying spot for the National championship. Meanwhile, the Providence College women's team finished in second place, securing the other automatic qualifying position from the region. The Army West Point and Syracuse teams finished in third and fourth place, respectively. They must wait to find out if they will be selected for one of the 14 at-large berths. The NCAA committee selects the at-large teams using a system that evaluates head-to-head meets. During the 2025 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Men’s Cross Country Championship in Hopkinton, NH, Syracuse clinched the team title with an impressive display, placing several runners in the top 15 to earn their automatic qualification for nationals. Iona finished in second place, maintaining its history of strong performances at regionals. Despite a strong season and hopes of breaking into the top two, Harvard finished outside the automatic qualifying range. Their depth wasn’t enough to match Syracuse’s dominance or Iona’s consistency. Harvard will now have to rely on the at-large selection process, which considers season-long performances and head-to-head results. Boston, MA Fantaye Belayneh of Ethiopia successfully defended her title as the women's champion at the 2025 BAA Boston Half, securing victory with a time of 1:08:51 after an exciting sprint finish. She maintained a strategic approach by remaining with the lead group for most of the race, then executed a powerful sprint in the final moments. Her finish time of 1:08:51 ranks as the fourth-fastest on the Boston Half course. Melknat Wudu secured second place, trailing by only two seconds. Wudu completed the race in 1:08:53, resulting in an Ethiopian 1–2 finish. Boston's Jacqueline Gaughan bested second place finisher Molly Collwell finishing in the fastest time of the day, 1:12:28. Margaret Donovan finished in the third position, averaging 5:52 per mile. - Veterans honored at the DAV 5K Boston
Boston, MA The DAV 5K Boston run was held November 8, 2025 at Castle Island in South Boston. The Run to Honor Veterans is intended to honor veterans and raise awareness of the issues facing our ill and injured veterans. (DAV helps more than one million veterans each year in positive, life-changing ways, at no cost to them. From the Berkshires to Provincetown, the DAV Department of Massachusetts supports our local veterans everyday with our programs and services.) Nearly 1,000 runners took part in the 5K run, while over 120 people joined the 1 Mile walk.
